Happy birthday, Harry James Potter! July 31, 1980
Never miss an opportunity to tell someone how much they mean to you.
[Addressing a roomful of medical professionals in a speech about living with cerebral palsy]
“I’m defined by what I can’t do. But we all have things we can’t do, except nobody says stuff like: oh, David Beckham is a great footballer but have you seen him play Trivial Pursuit? He’s shit!
Why should only some people be burdened with big flashing neon labels like ‘brain damaged’, ‘paraplegic’, ‘blind’? Let’s define everybody that way: meet Sally, she can’t sing a fucking note! Say hi to Rob, he’s shit at DIY! Here’s Danny, watch him play golf - you’ll piss yourself!”
My eyes fell on a young male doctor sitting in the front row.
“Hello, sir. What’s your name?”
“Er, Derek,” he said, a little self-consciously.
“Hello, Derek. Nice to meet you. Can you tell us something you’re really crap at?”
“Well, I, er… I can’t dance.”
“Shit! Were you born like that?” I asked him with wide-eyed astonishment.
“Yes, I was, unfortunately.”
“Fuck… that’s awful! Sorry if I’m a bit nervous, Derek, I just… well, I’ve never met anyone who can’t dance before! Not quite sure what I should say…” I trailed off nervously. “I’ve actually read about people like you! Tell me, have you got a partner, Derek?”
He pointed to a brown-haired woman next to him. “Yes, Katie. She’s a doctor too.”
I turned my attention to her. “Great to meet you, Katie! First of all, can I just say how lovely it is to know there are people like you in the world who aren’t superficial. You obviously met Derek and thought, ‘OK, you can’t dance but, fuck it, I love you!’ It’s so heart-warming!
“Can I ask you an important question, Katie? Do you get any respite time away from Derek? Carers need breaks too.” Katie shook her head, unable to speak. I turned back to Derek.
“One last question, Derek. Can you… have sex?” I asked with studied curiosity. He looked around smiling and embarrassed.
“Derek, you’re a very brave man. Well done! It’s been a real inspiration meeting you!

when McGonagall finds out that Ginny is pregnant, and that the Weasley and Potter bloodlines will converge, she marks on her calender the day the child will turn 11 and that is the day she retires
I feel like a prisoner inside my own body. This is the reality for someone with a chronic illness. And it’s a hard reality to deal with.
As we all know this is Scrump, she only has a few more days to live due to the bug that laided eggs in her head, but for every like and reblog this picture gets we will donate a dollar towards getting Scrump the much needed surgery she needs to remove the bug eggs from her head.
25,000 likes and reblogs will be enough to save this cute little doll, have a heart and like or reblog :)

“There’s a tremendous difference between alone and lonely. You could be lonely in a group of people. I like being alone. I like eating by myself. I go home at night and just watch a movie or hang out with my dog. I have to exert myself and really say, oh God, I’ve got to see my friends ‘cause I’m too content being by myself.” -Drew Barrymore
Wow ive seen this one hundred times and never knew it was her
people underestimate my ability to cut them out of my life when they fuck me over
you are my sunshine
my only sunshine
you make me happy
when skies are gray
you’ll never know dear
how much I love you
please don’t take
my sunshine away
You are beautiful.
These three simple small words are some of the most powerful around that don’t get spoken nearly enough, probably because we associate the phrase with physical appearances but it’s so much more then that. I love people who take it upon themselves to write/post these words in random places because seeing them can make a bad day better or make a good day an amazing day.
One thing i love about my college is that people have taken it upon themselves to write this & other inspirational phrases on the bathroom stalls/mirrors. I’m against graffiti but i acknowledge the fact that sometimes all you need is a kind word to keep you from doing something stupid. So it makes me happy to see people being encouraging towards one another, even if that means defacing public property…
I’m not about to call myself beautiful but, personally i’d rather have hideous physical features because then i’d know the reason everyone “likes” me or is close to me is because they know the real me & don’t just see a nice body or face. But thats just me.
